Zum Üben von Felsen und Steinen habe ich zwei Motive aus dem Tessin ausgesucht; beide zeigen das Verzascatal. Oben: Wanderweg in der Flussaue; unten: direkt an der Verzasca – die grün-türkise Farbe ist typisch für diesen Fluss (das ist nicht die Spiegelung der umgebenden Vegetation, sondern der Mineralgehalt).
For practising stones and rocks in watercolour, I’ve chosen two scenes from my trip to Ticino. Both show the valley of the Verzasca. Above: trail in the river meadows; below: in the river bed. The green-turquoise colour is typical for this river (it’s not a reflection of the surrounding vegetation but the content of minerals).
Beim Spazieren durch Burnaby, einer Vorstadt von Vancouver (Geburtsstadt von Michael Bublé😉), fand ich auch etliche nette Motive, unter anderem diesen alten Wagen, der wohl einem Bastler gehörte…

Im Sommer 2012 hatte ich gut 2 Wochen in Westkanada verbracht, eine Reise mit vielen, sehr intensiven Eindrücken, an die ich immer wieder gerne zurückdenke. Damals konnte ich allerdings noch nicht zeichnen und malen, daher gibt es nur Fotos. Diese jedoch rufen teilweise regelrecht danach, mit Feder und Farbe neu interpretiert zu werden, darum habe ich im Laufe der Jahre immer wieder Motive dieser Reise verwendet. Nun hatte ich die Idee, quasi im Nachhinein ein komplettes Sketchbuch nur mit Kanada-Bildern zu füllen – ganz gut für die kalte, dunkle Jahreszeit, bevor ich wieder gemütlich draußen malen kann – und in Vorfreude auf den Sommer! Hier die ersten paar Bilder im Buch – viel Spaß!
In the summer of 2012 I had made a 2-week trip to West-Canada – a vacation that left me with a lot of impressions and great memories I love to recall. At the time, though, I still hadn’t started sketching and painting, so there’s „only“ a lot of photos of this trip. These are by now a favourite stash of reference pictures for sketching, so I just had the idea of creating a whole sketchbook of this trip – as kind of a retrospective view. This is a nice passtime for winter, until I’ll be able again to paint outdoors comfortably; also, it makes me look forward to next summer and vacations… Here the first pictures in this new sketchbook – have fun!

Den Sommer über habe ich viel in Gärten fotografiert, um Motive zum Zeichnen zu sammeln. Hier zwei hübsche Ecken im Garten meiner Freundin Elke.
During the summer months I’ve taken a lot of pictures in various gardens as reference for sketching. These two watercolours show nice corners in the garden of my friend Elke.
Vor 2 Tagen fuhr ich mit meiner Tochter im Glacier Express von Chur nach Zermatt. Den gestrigen Tag waren wir wandern, heute ging es wieder heim. Schon der Blick aus dem Panoramazug war toll, allerdings zeigen die Fotos, die ich aus dem Zug machte, ein paar kleine Spiegelungen, leicht verfälschte Farben und teils Bewegungsunschärfe am unteren Rand. Trotzdem geben sie einen guten Eindruck von der Fahrt. Auf der Wanderung gelangen dafür richtig gute Bilder – geniesst es!
Two days ago I went to Zermatt with my daughter, taking the Glacier Express train. Yesterday, we did a hiking tour, today we went home again. The panoramic train offered great views, while the photos taken from the train show some minor reflections and the colours, too, are a bit changed. Nevertheless, they offer a nice impression of the trip! The photos taken on the hiking tour turned out great, though. So, enjoy!

Die nächsten Bilder sind alle von unserer Wanderung: wir gingen sehr gemütlich einen Teil der Seen-Tour; mit Bahnen das Rothorn hinauf bis Blauherd, dann zu Fuß bis zur Fluhalp und im Bogen hinunter zur Bahnstation Sunnega, mit der Zahnradbahn dann ins Tal. Ständig neue Ansichten des über allem thronenden Matterhorns begleiten einen dort oben, doch auch das Adlerhorn oberhalb der Fluhalp ist immer wieder fotogen…
The next pictures have all been taken during our hiking tour: we took a part of the „Lakes“-trail. We went up Rothorn mountain taking first the rack train, then the cable car to „Blauherd“. From there we hiked up to the mountain restaurant „Fluhalp“, then took a wide arc down to the rack train which we again took for our ride down. The whole time we had many different views of the Matterhorn, but „Adlerhorn“ (Eagles Horn) above Fluhalp also made for a great motive…

I imagine, Rothorn (Red Horn) mountain has got its name because of the brushes that are bright red this time of year(?)Ein bißchen Kitsch muss sein😉/just a bit of kitsch is ok, too😉
In letzter Zeit war ich etwas „faul“, was Blog Beiträge angeht – aber nicht beim Zeichnen! Also hole ich heute etwas nach und zeige ein paar der neuesten Bilder. Oben: Urban Sketching in München, Außenbereich eines Cafés.

Auch vor Ort gezeichnet: Eingang des Wasserschlosses Sandizell Nähe Schrobenhausen – es ist in privater Hand und nur im Rahmen von Veranstaltungen zugänglich, hier war „Mediterraner Markt“.
Also sketched on location: entrance of Sandizell Castle, a privately owned small castle near Schrobenhausen. Getting near like this only is possible during events; I visited the „Mediterranian Market“.
Eine Freundin hatte mir ein Foto ihrer Stockrosen (Malven, Eibisch, Hibiscus) geschickt, dafür bekam sie sie dann gemalt zurück.

Und mal wieder ein Garten… Mein nächster Beitrag wird aber ein gänzlich anderes Thema haben!

Auch hier bin ich jede Woche einmal, um die Senioren zu unterstützen. Sie haben mich freundlicherweise in ihrem Garten fotografieren lassen, als Vorlage zum Zeichnen. Bei meinem nächsten Besuch werden sie das Original bekommen.
This is another place I visit once a week to help the elderly inhabitants. They kindly let me take pictures as reference for sketching. On my next visit they’ll get the original as a gift.
Die Gorge du Verdon ist eine tiefe Schlucht in der Provence, auf deren Grund der türkisfarbene Fluss Verdon dem Stausee Lac de Sainte-Croix entgegenfliesst. Mein Besuch dort ist etliche Jahre her, aber wenn es klappt, werde ich nächstes Jahr nochmal Urlaub in der Provence machen…😊
This canyon, formed by the turquoise river Verdon, is situated in Provence. Here you see the river flowing into the reservoir lake of Sainte-Croix. My last visit there was many years ago, but hopefully next year I’ll be able to pass my vacation in Provence once again 😊
