Inzwischen fuhr ich weiter ins Tessin, und zwar über den Gotthard Pass, da der Tunnel mal wieder Stau hatte. Auf der Südseite des Passes machte ich Pause, zum Mittagessen und für einen Eintrag in mein Aquarellbuch.
Meanwhile, I’ve crossed the Gotthard mountain pass (the tunnel entrance being jammed by traffic once again). On the south side of the pass I took a lunch break, also adding another sketch to my sketchbook.
Im Verzascatal erreichte ich dann mein Feriendomizil für eine gute Woche, eines von mehreren Appartments in dem Haus oben. Direkt gegenüber befindet sich ein Wasserfall namens Froda:

Heute dann machte ich im unteren Bereich des Tales eine erste kleine Wanderung: vom Staudamm über Gordemo und Gordola nach Tenero. Das Wetter war sehr bedeckt, doch zu regnen begann es erst, als ich in Tenero angekommen war. Unterwegs hatte ich noch Zeit und Gelegenheit für kleine Zeichnungen:
Today, I did a first little hiking tour in the lower part of the valley, from the Verzasca dam to the town of Tenero, passing Gordemo and Gordola. The weather was quite brooding, but it only started raining when I had reached Tenero. On my way I had time for two sketches:
Die Kapelle „Oratorio della Fraccia „, oberhalb des Lago Maggiore, wurde der Sage nach von einem Mann gegründet, der es in Rom zu Reichtum gebracht hatte, dann auf dem Heimweg ausgeraubt wurde und schließlich durch glücklichen Zufall sein Eigentum doch wieder erlangte. Zum Dank soll er die Kapelle gestiftet haben.
The chapel „Oratorio della Fraccia „, overlooking the Lago Maggiore, is mentioned in a legend: a man who had made his luck in Rome, got robbed on his way home to Ticino. But the luck didn’t leave him completely: he was able to regain his property by chance and arriving home at last, he thanked God for this donating the chapel.
