Die im letzten Beitrag erwähnte Wanderung führte mich auch an diesem Bildstock vorbei, der so schön von der Sonne beschienen wurde, mit den ersten gelb und weiß blühenden Sträuchern daneben, dass er einfach gezeichnet werden musste…
During the hiking tour mentioned in my last post, I passed this wayside shrine. With the sun illuminating it and the first bushes blooming white and yellow, I just had to sketch it!
Am Sonntag habe ich eine Wandertour im Ecknachtal bei Aichach gemacht und bei schönstem Sonnenschein endlich auch mal wieder draussen vor Ort gemalt. Im Hof von Schloss Blumenthal (ein ehemaliges Kloster des Deutschen Ordens) fand ich nicht nur eine Bank mit Ausblick, sondern auch, ganz unerwartet, weidende Lamas! Eines musste natürlich mit auf’s Bild😉 Schloss Blumenthal bietet auch ein Hotel, ein Restaurant mit sehr beliebtem Biergarten, Kunsthandwerkerateliers und einmal im Jahr einen Kunsthandwerkermarkt.
Last Sunday I’ve done a little hiking near Aichach (20km from Augsburg). One of the places on the way was Blumenthal Castle (which actually once had been a monastery). Under a glorious spring sun, I at last did my first outdoor sketching this year. The location not only offered a nice view but also grazing llamas! One of them, resting, found its way into my picture…😉 Blumenthal also features a hotel, a restaurant and beer garden, artist’s studios and, once a year, a handicraft market.
Letzten September hatte ich die berühmte Altstadt von Rothenburg ob der Tauber besucht. Bei bestem Wetter hatte ich das Glück, („dank“ Corona), sie ohne den sonst üblichen Touristentrubel erleben zu können. Eines der vielen Fotos, die ich dort gemacht hatte, war nun Vorlage für dies Aquarell.
Last September I had the pleasure to visit the world famous Old Town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Thanks to Corona, there was no mass of tourists as usual, despite the fine weather. One of the many pictures taken there was reference for this watercolour.
Da ich dienstlich viel auf dem Land unterwegs bin, kann ich oft schöne Stimmungen genießen. Eine alte Dame, die ich täglich versorge, hat diesen Blick aus ihrem Fenster. An einem besonders schönen Morgen zückte ich mein Handy für ein schnelles Foto, das ich nun mit Acryl auf Leinwand gebracht habe.
In my job, I have to visit many people in the surrounding villages, so quite often I get to see the landscape in beautiful light. This is the view from the window of an elderly lady I visit each day. One morning it was so beautiful I took a fast photo with my phone. Today, I’ve used acrylics on canvas for this picture.
Augsburgs Nachbarstadt Friedberg besitzt nicht nur eine hübsche Altstadt, sondern auch eine Wallfahrtskirche, „Herrgottsruh“. Mir gefiel dieser Blick wegen des natürlichen Rahmens.
The small town of Friedberg is Augsburg’s next neighbour. Apart from a nice old part of town it also offers a pilgrimage church, called „Herrgottsruh“. I like this view because of the natural „frame“.
Gestern habe ich eine Wanderung von Oberstdorf zum Bergdorf Gerstruben gemacht, wo ich, auf der Kante eines Brunnens sitzend, diese Häuser gemalt habe. Die schönsten Fotos der Tour – mit ausführlicher Beschreibung- könnt Ihr im Lauf der Woche in meinem nächsten Beitrag finden!
Yesterday, I made a little hiking tour in the Alps near Oberstdorf, visiting the historical farmhouses of the village Gerstruben. Sitting on the edge of a well, I did some of them in the „line-and-wash“ watercolour style (above). In my next post this week you’ll find the best photos of this tour with a lot of information about it!
Auf dem Rückweg von Leipzig besuchte ich noch den Park Eremitage in Bayreuth, der frei zugänglich ist. Gestaltet ab 1715 auf ca. 52ha, bietet er viel Abwechslung durch romantische Gebäude, Brunnen, künstliche Ruinen, Landschaftspark und barocke Anlagen mit Blumen. Eintritt kostet lediglich der Innenbereich des alten Schlosses, doch dies war wegen Corona noch geschlossen. Einen kleinen Blick mit der Kamera direkt am Fenster des Ballsaales gönnte ich mir:
On my way back from Leipzig I visited the park Eremitage in Bayreuth (yes, the town famous for its Wagner classical music festival). Created from 1715 onwards, the large park offers interesting views with romantic buildings, fountains, artificial ruins and ponds, etc. The park is open all year; entry fees only have to be paid for the visit of the Old Castle (which was still closed to visitors because of the pandemic). Anyway, I stole a glance through the windows of the castle into the ballroom:

In front, there’s a pond where trick fountains are operated for some minutes every hour:
Doch auch an der „Unteren Grotte“ sind die Wasserspiele sehenswert – Achtung, nicht nass werden!
Also, the fountains of the „Lower Grotto“ are impressive – don’t get wet!
Ein ruhigerer Bereich sind die barocken Gärten mit Blumen, Hecken und Seerosenteich:

Letzte Woche war ich bei schönem Wetter mal wieder mit dem Rad unterwegs – und mit dem Malblock. Die Bauern haben nun wieder viel Arbeit! Dieser Traktor stand gerade lang genug an einer Stelle, dass ich ihn zeichnen konnte – die Farbe kam später.
Last week, the weather being fine, I did a little tour with my bike – and my watercolour pad. The farmers have got a lot of work again, this time of year! This tractor only stood still, seemingly abandoned, long enough for me being able to sketch it, adding colour later.
Da ich in letzter Zeit häufig für Kollegen auf dienstlichen Touren in Friedberg (östliche Nachbarstadt von Augsburg) und Umgebung eingesprungen bin, habe ich dort einige Wege entdeckt, die zum Spazieren und Wandern einladen. Diese Woche habe ich frei und das Wetter macht auch mit, drum war ich heute für 2 Stunden dort unterwegs. Die Natur ist ja größtenteils noch grau-braun, doch ein wenig Grün gibt es. Auf der Strecke hatte ich nur das Handy dabei und habe damit einige Bilder als Malvorlage gemacht. Das erste wurde gleich heute umgesetzt! Leider wirkt der Himmel auf dem Foto viel heller und fader als auf dem Original-Aquarell…
Lately, I had to work a lot in the nearby town of Friedberg and the surrounding villages, thus discovering several nice places and paths, inviting me for a walk. This week, the weather is fine and I’m free, so today I took a walk in the area. The nature still doesn’t show much colour except a bit of green here and there. I took some pictures with my smartphone as reference for future watercolours, finishing the first one this evening. Alas, the sky on the photo looks much lighter and less interesting than in the original painting…
