Schloss Blumenthal – Blumenthal Castle

Am Sonntag habe ich eine Wandertour im Ecknachtal bei Aichach gemacht und bei schönstem Sonnenschein endlich auch mal wieder draussen vor Ort gemalt. Im Hof von Schloss Blumenthal (ein ehemaliges Kloster des Deutschen Ordens) fand ich nicht nur eine Bank mit Ausblick, sondern auch, ganz unerwartet, weidende Lamas! Eines musste natürlich mit auf’s Bild😉 Schloss Blumenthal bietet auch ein Hotel, ein Restaurant mit sehr beliebtem Biergarten, Kunsthandwerkerateliers und einmal im Jahr einen Kunsthandwerkermarkt.

Last Sunday I’ve done a little hiking near Aichach (20km from Augsburg). One of the places on the way was Blumenthal Castle (which actually once had been a monastery). Under a glorious spring sun, I at last did my first outdoor sketching this year. The location not only offered a nice view but also grazing llamas! One of them, resting, found its way into my picture…😉 Blumenthal also features a hotel, a restaurant and beer garden, artist’s studios and, once a year, a handicraft market.

Diese hübsche Ecke im Wohnzimmer meiner Mutter hatte ich schon länger im Blick… Im gemalten Bild sieht selbst die Heizung besser aus als auf einem Foto!

This corner in my Mum’s living room always catches my eye… While the heating at the wall doesn’t look nice on a photo, in this watercolour it’s perfectly ok, don’t you think?

Kiefern am Lech in Hochzoll – Pinetrees at the Riverbed

Kurz vor der Hochablassbrücke in Augsburg-Hochzoll bietet sich dieser Blick auf den Lech, der im Winter nur wenig Wasser führt, und die Bahnbrücke im Hintergrund.

Near a pedestrian bridge over the dam called „Hochablass“ in the part of Augsburg where I live, this view shows the river Lech. In winter, it is narrow and shallow, leaving a part of its bed bare. In the background you see the train bridge.

Am Weiher – At the Pond

Dies Wochenende habe ich mal wieder in Amberg bei meiner Mutter verbracht. Ein gemeinsamer Spaziergang führte uns diesmal ins LGS-Gelände (ehem. Landesgartenschau), wo ganz kurz die Sonne ein wenig durch die Wolken guckte und uns diese Ansicht bescherte.

Spending this weekend with my mother in Amberg, we took a little walk near the river where years ago a garden exhibition had taken place. The area is still beautiful with nice paths and ponds. When the sun came out just a bit for some minutes, we were offered this view.

Kleine Landschaften in Aquarell – Small Watercolour Landscapes

Diese kleinen Landschaften werden mal wieder als Postkarten dienen… Sie sind – teils recht frei – nach eigenen Fotos entstanden. Dies kleine Format eignet sich prima, wenn man wenig Zeit hat und verschiedenes üben möchte.

These small landscapes will once again serve as postcards… They have been painted from reference photos I’ve taken over the years. This small format is a great way to try new ideas with little time on your hands.

Um die Karten ohne Umschlag verschicken zu können, habe ich die feuchtigkeitsempfindlichen Farben geschützt, indem ich die Vorderseite laminiert habe.

To be able to send the cards without envelopes, I’ve protected the colours from rain and humidity by laminating the front.

Kleine Motive für Postkarten – Small Paintings for Postcards

Inzwischen habe ich noch ein paar weitere kleine Motive für Postkarten gemalt, zwei in Aquarell (oben und unten), weitere in Acryl (weiter unten). Momentan kann ich nicht entscheiden, was mir besser gefällt, beides macht soviel Spaß!

Meanwhile, I’ve done some more painted postcards, two watercolours (above and directly below) as well as some acrylics (further down). Somehow, I just can’t tell what I prefer – both are so much fun!

Mini- Acrylbilder – Small Acrylic Pictures

Nachdem ich eine Großpackung mit 14 kleinen Leinwandplatten (ca. 7,5x18cm) günstig erstanden hatte, habe ich heute gleich ein paar davon bemalt. Enstanden sind 3 leicht abstrahierte Seelandschaften und 3 Blumenmotive:

Having purchased a large pack of small canvas panels (3″×5″), today I started painting some of them. The result are 3 landscapes, all featuring water, as well as 3 flower themes:

Da die Rückseite mit Schreibpapier beklebt ist, kann ich sie prima als Postkarten verwenden!

The panels having a paper backing, they can be used as postcards!

Haus mit Flieder – House with Lilac

Dies Bild ist eine Erinnerung an letztes Frühjahr, als ich in meinem Stadtteil mit dem Fotoapparat unterwegs war… Ob der Flieder dieses Jahr wieder so üppig blühen wird?

The reference photo for this picture has been taken last spring in my neighbourhood. Will the lilac bloom as opulently again this year?

An der Stadtmauer von Rothenburg – The Ancient City Wall of Rothenburg

Letzten September hatte ich die berühmte Altstadt von Rothenburg ob der Tauber besucht. Bei bestem Wetter hatte ich das Glück, („dank“ Corona), sie ohne den sonst üblichen Touristentrubel erleben zu können. Eines der vielen Fotos, die ich dort gemacht hatte, war nun Vorlage für dies Aquarell.

Last September I had the pleasure to visit the world famous Old Town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Thanks to Corona, there was no mass of tourists as usual, despite the fine weather. One of the many pictures taken there was reference for this watercolour.
