Nach einem alten Foto habe ich dieses 10x15cm große Stillleben gemalt – ich finde es ziemlich gelungen. Die Freundin, in deren damaliger Wohnung das Foto entstanden war, hat nun das gemalte Bild zum Geburtstag bekommen.
This still life has been painted with an old photo as reference – actually, I’m quite happy how it turned out. Yesterday, my friend in who’s former house the photo had been taken, has received the small (10×15cm) painting as a birthday gift.
Die kleine Stadt Friedberg, die an den Osten Augsburgs grenzt, habe ich schon mehrfach mit Fotos und gemalten Bildern vorgestellt – ja, ich mag sie sehr gern! Unter anderem gibt es hier noch ein paar Bauernhöfe, die direkt in der Stadt liegen, nicht in einem der eingemeindeten Dörfer. Das Bild oben zeigt einen davon. Aquarell, 27cmx20cm.
Several times before I already have shown photos and painted pictures of Friedberg, the small neighbouring town on the east of Augsburg. Yes, I really love it! There even are a few farmhouses left inside the town, not only in the surrounding villages. This watercolour, measuring 27cm x 20cm, shows one of them.
Derzeit bin ich nach wie vor ganz wild auf Mini-Acrylbilder… Etliche meiner Fotos habe ich inzwischen im kleinen Format gemalt. Seien es kleine Leinwände (7×5cm), Holzscheibchen oder Papier in selbstgemachten Rahmen, zum Aufhängen oder – besonders gern – als Kühlschrankmagnete, ich liebe sie einfach!
Still hooked on tiny acrylics… A lot of my photos have been painted in a small size, using tiny canvases (7x3cm), small slices of wood and paper in handmade frames. Some are meant to hang on a wall, others have added magnets for the fridge – I love them all!

Einige Rähmchen habe ich aus Schnur gelegt, die runden messen innen 4x4cm, die ovalen 7x4cm. Auch diese haben Magnete auf der Rückseite.
I’ve created some small frames with cord: the circular ones measuring 4x4cm, the oval ones 7x4cm. These, too, are backed with magnets.
Weitere Rahmen habe ich aus lufttrocknender Modelliermasse gemacht, mit Hilfe von Modellierformen. Diese sind ein wenig größer, bis auf das erste Bild.
I’ve created some more frames using molded air-dry clay. Except for the first one, they’re a bit larger.

Alles fing damit an, dass ich eine leere Flasche verzieren wollte.. Und sie geriet wunderschön!
It all started with an empty bottle I wanted to embellish… And I really like the result!
Wellpappe, Acrylfarbe, Embossingpulver, Glitter, ein Stück Rupfen, Muscheln, Strandglas, Perlen und eine Juteschnur sind mit von der Partie. Das dauerte zwar etwas, hat aber unheimlich Spaß gemacht!
Corrugated cardboard, a piece of hessian, twine, acrylic colours, embossing powder, seashells, seaglass, beads – all add up to this look. It took quite some time, but it was great fun, too!
Nun sieht die Flasche aus, als hätte sie Jahrzehnte oder gar Jahrhunderte auf dem Meeresboden gelegen… Und ich dachte mir, es wäre doch cool, wenn sie nicht nur der Dekoration dienen würde, sondern tatsächlich etwas darin wäre?! Dabei fiel mir zunächst ein passender Name für den zukünftigen Inhalt ein und ich gestaltete das Label (siehe Foto ganz oben).
Now the bottle looks as if it has spent decades or even centuries on the bottom of the ocean… So I had this idea, wouldn’t it be cool if it wasn’t just a deco object but actually contained a spirit you could drink?! Before even starting to brew something, I thought of a matching name for the new product and created the label you see on the first picture above.
Auch dieses wurde auf einer Seite passend verziert. Doch dann musste ich mir natürlich noch ein passendes Rezept für den angekündigten Likör ausdenken!
This, too, has been embellished on one side. Then I started to think about a matching recipe for this announced liqueur!
Nun, bei „erfrischend“ dachte ich gleich an Zitrone und Kräuter. Aber der „Hauch von Meer“? Salzwasser wollte ich ja nun nicht verwenden… Er sollte ja trotzdem auch gut schmecken! Schließlich erinnerte ich mich an meinen Aufenthalt in der Bretagne vor einigen Jahren: dort hatte ich mehrere Produkte mit Algen probiert – die Lösung!
Well, for „refreshing“ I wanted to use lemons and herbs. But the „touch of ocean“!? Not wanting it to taste like salt water, I remembered my holidays in Brittany, France, some years ago, where I had tasted several products containing edible algae – this was it!
REZEPT FÜR LIKÖR „SEEBRISE“:
0,75l Korn oder Wodka
400ml Wasser
200g Zucker
Saft und Schale von 3 Zitronen
Eine Handvoll frischen Basilikum
Eine Handvoll frische Minze
1/2 TL gemahlener Koriander
etwas getrocknete Zitronenverbene (z.B. Tee)
2EL getrocknete Wakame- Alge
Wasser mit Zucker und Zitrone aufkochen, Kräuter, Gewürze, Algen zugeben und noch kurz weiterkochen lassen, dann bis zum Abkühlen ziehen lassen. Alkohol zugeben, noch etwas ziehen lassen und schließlich alles abseihen, erst durch ein Sieb, dann durch ein Tuch, und heiß ausgespülte Flaschen füllen. Schmeckt gekühlt, besonders gut auf einem Eiswürfel. Prost! (Algen enthalten viel Jod und sollten daher nur in geringen Maßen genossen werden, aber solange man nicht gleich die halbe Flasche Likör auf einmal trinkt, kann nichts passieren😉)
RECIPE FOR „SEABREEZE“ LIQUEUR
0,75l Wodka or a clear spirit without added flavour
400ml water
200g white sugar
Zest and juice of 3 lemons
A handfull of fresh basil leaves
A handfull of fresh mint leaves
1/2 teaspoon of ground coriander
a bit of dried verbena (p.e. tea)
2 tablespoons of dried Wakame algue
Bring water, sugar and lemon to a boil, add herbs, spices and algae and continue to boil for about 2 minutes. Let sit until cool, add the spirit and let sit again for some time. Then pour it first through a sieve, then through a cloth and fill it into bottles which have been washed with hot water. Enjoy cool, best on an ice cube. Cheers! (As algae contain a lot of iodine, you shouldn’t eat much of them. But as long as you don’t drink half of a bottle of this liqueur on one day, there’s no danger!😉)
Dann fand ich hübsche Likörgläser im Sozialkaufhaus und bemalte sie mit Glasfarben passend zur Flasche: auch sie haben lang auf dem Meeresboden gelegen😉
Then I thrifted 6 liqueur glasses and painted them with glass colours so they now match the bottle…they, too, have spent some time on the bottom of the sea😉
Und schließlich gestaltete ich noch eine Box, die zur Geschichte passt und in der Flasche und Gläser würdig und sicher transportiert werden können! Die Griffe und der Verschluss sind aus einem alten Ledergürtel gemacht. Die Box selber wurde innen verstärkt, denn das Glas wiegt einiges.
Finally, I used a matching box for storage, first reinforcing the inside (glass is quite heavy) and adding some embellishment as well as an old leather belt for handles and for fastening.
Ein schönes Geschenk! Da ich noch Algen übrig hatte, habe ich gleich noch mehr von dem Likör gemacht und auch bereits eine weitere Flasche – etwas anders – dafür verziert:

Nach Auftragen von Gesso und teils Strukturpaste habe ich die Vorderseite mit Acrylfarbe bemalt. Die Rückseite wurde so bemalt und gestaltet, dass es aussieht, als klebe Sand daran. Nun, mit leeren Flaschen habe ich in Zukunft noch einiges vor – mit oder ohne Likör!
After applying gesso I’ve used acrylics for painting the front. The back has been treated to look like covered with sand.- Well, embellishing bottles is much fun and I still have some ideas – with and without liqueur!
So, nun ist die Wand komplett! Ein paar weitere, kleine Rahmen, jedoch nicht mehr so winzig, kamen noch dazu.
Now this wall is complete! A few small, although not tiny, frames have been added.

Kein urzeitlicher Steinkreis, sondern eine Kunstinstallation (Eckart Brandau) im Gelände der ehem. Landesgartenschau in Amberg/Opf. Unter winterlichem Himmel und zwischen kahlen Bäumen wirkt das Ganze noch mystischer… Hier habe ich die einzelnen Felsbrocken absichtlich „genau“ gemalt, um ihre jeweilige Individualität darzustellen. Schließlich hatte der Künstler sie ja auch einzeln ausgewählt und platziert!
This is no Stone Age monument but an art installation (by Eckart Brandau) in the meadow where many years ago a garden show had taken place and which now is a public park, in Amberg (Oberpfalz, Bavaria). Under the winter sky and with bare trees standing watch, the place has a mystical vibe… I’ve tried to catch the rocks in their individualities since the artist has chosen and placed each one of them!
Neulich bekam ich im Sozialkaufhaus ein ganzes Set alter, goldener Metallrähmchen! Sie sind zwischen 3cmx3cm und 9x6cm klein. Außerdem nahm ich noch einen etwas dickeren, ovalen Rahmen und einen Holzrahmen 13x18cm mit. Das Wochenende verbrachte ich daher teils damit, für jeden Rahmen ein kleines Bild zu malen!
Some days ago, I „thrifted“ a set of small, vintage goldtone metal frames, the smallest one only measures 3x3cm, the largest 9x6cm. Also, I took two other frames, one of which is 13x18cm. So I spent a large part of this weekend painting small acrylic pictures for these frames!
Die meisten Motive entstanden nach eigenen Fotos, einzelne jedoch zeigen auch kleine Landschaften und einen Blumenstrauß, die ich aus dem Kopf entworfen habe.
Most have been done from reference photos of my travels, a few landscapes and a bouquet, though, are products of my imagination.
Das hat unheimlich viel Spaß gemacht – da wird es auf alle Fälle noch weiteren Zuwachs geben!
Well, that was great fun – there will be more of them over time!
Von meinem Tag in Annecy im September hatte ich ja schon mit Fotos und einem Reisesketch berichtet. Diese alte Gasse, die zur Burg hinauf führt (hier natürlich der Blick auf dem Weg hinunter) hat mich aber auch sehr zu einem weiteren „line and wash“ – Aquarell gereizt.
Already having shown the photos and a travel sketch from my day in Annecy last September, I now did another „line and wash“ watercolour of this old alleyway. It leads up to the castle of Annecy; here we’re looking down towards the clock tower.
Im Sozialkaufhaus und auf Flohmärkten nehme ich immer mal wieder alte Holzbretter mit, denn sie sind vielseitig verwendbar! Diesmal habe ich sie als Basis für hübsche und nützliche Wanddeko hergenommen. Das erste wurde geweißelt, mit einer hübschen Serviette beklebt und mit gepressten Blüten verziert. Dann habe ich aus dünnem Karton je einen Halter für Zettel und für Stift gebastelt, wiederum mit Blüten und Borte verziert und aufgeklebt. Unten sieht man, dass ich zusätzlich jedes einzelne Blatt mit einer kleinen goldenen Blume bestempelt habe. Und ich glaube, ich weiß auch schon, wem ich das Teil mal schenken werde…😉
In the thrift store or on yard sales I often buy old wooden cutting boards – they are very cheap and versatile for crafting! This time I’ve used them to create wall decorations that also are useful. The first one has been painted white before adding a patterned paper napkin and pressed flowers. Then I used thin card board for a little note box and a ball pen holder, again some pressed flowers and a nice border for decoration. Below you see that every note has got a little golden flower stamp in the lower right corner.
Ein weiteres, noch kleineres Brett von der Größe eines Tischtennisschlägers wurde ebenfalls bemalt und mit einem Serviettenmotiv beklebt, doch diesmal kamen ein paar ganz kleine, alte Apothekergläschen, mit Borte verziert, dazu. Sie sind mit Heißkleber aufgebracht und können kleine Blümchen aufnehmen – zum Beispiel die letzten Reste eines Blumenstraußes.
The next one has the size of a ping-pong paddle. The light green acrylic paint and a napkin flower make for a fresh look, whereas vintage pharmacy bottles and a vintage border add a touch of nostalgia. They are hot-glued onto the board and may be filled with tiny flowers, for example the leftovers of a bouquet.
Noch mehr Apothekenfläschchen: gerade hat die Apotheke nebenan umgebaut und verkauft die alten Flaschen. Hier stehen sie lose wie die Orgelpfeifen auf einem Balkönchen aus Pappe und Eisstielen, der sicher mit Holzleim befestigt ist. Das Brett selbst ist zwar auch „second hand“, doch ohne Gebrauchsspuren und noch sehr hell. Daher habe ich es nicht mit Farbe bestrichen (außer die weißen Kanten), sondern Brandmalerei für die Dekoration gewählt. Während ich die Ranken frei Hand aufgezeichnet habe, nahm ich für die Schmetterlinge ganz einfach Silikonstempel als Vordruck, die bringen eine sehr klare, deutliche und detailreiche Vorlage und sind mit dem feinsten Aufsatz des Brandmalerei-Werkzeugs sehr gut nachzuziehen. Die Filigranität des Motivs wiederholt sich auf dem Relief der Fläschchen, das ich mit etwas weißer Acrylfarbe hervorgehoben habe, sowie in der Spitze, welche die Flaschenhälse ziert. Das eigentlich sehr dicke, grobe Brett (war mal ein Werbegeschenk einer Fleischerei, laut Aufdruck hinten), hat nun ein ganz leichtes Auftreten!
Some more pharmacy bottles: the pharmacy in my neighbourhood is just selling all the vintage stuff. Here they’re arranged by size on a little balcony made from cardboard and popsickles, which is securely white-glued. While the board is „second hand“ as the others, it hasn’t been used and still shows the original light wood colouring. So this time I only used paint for the edges and preferred pyrography for decoration. The swirls have been sketched by hand, but for the butterflies I used clear stamps, as these offer a fast way to get a clear, detailed and intricate pattern which then can easily be traced with the finest tip of the pyrography tool. The filigranity of the pattern matches the small reliefs of the vintage bottles, which I have highlighted with a bit of white paint, as well as the lace around the bottles. This way this thick, sturdy board now has got an elegant touch!
Das letzte war ein sehr altes, sehr großes Brett, das ich zum Schmuckhalter für meine handgemachten Ketten umgewandelt habe. Nach dem Weißeln habe ich den Großteil des Bretts unverziert gelassen, da ja die Ketten darüber hängen, nur oben gibt es eine kleine maritime Dekoration, die mit Heißkleber aufgebracht ist. Maritim, weil das Brett in meinem Badezimmer hängt😉 Unten ist das nochmal in groß zu sehen:
The last one is quite large and really old. After covering it with white paint, I left most of it without decoration, because I use it to showcase my long handmade necklaces. Only on the top I added some maritime decoration (it hangs in my bathroom), which you can see enlarged below:
Für die Haken habe ich vorher mit dem Dremel kleine Löcher gebohrt.- So, jetzt sind die Bretter erstmal wieder verbraucht, bald hole ich Nachschub!😉
After adding the decoration with the glue-gun, I used the dremel to drill small holes for the hooks.- Well, now my boards have all been used up, it’s time for a thrift store visit again!😉
Neulich habe ich im Sozialkaufhaus ein dickes Garn im Farbverlauf (oben) erstanden sowie einen Pullover, der ähnliche Farben hat, aber irgendwann einmal zu heiß gewaschen worden war, er war geschrumpft und verfilzt (bereits zerlegt siehe unten).
Some days ago, in the thrift store/charity shop, I had gotten the thick yarn above and a sweater in the same colours (below). It must have been washed too hot, because it was shrunk and stiff like felt.
Und dann fand ich noch diese Wolljacke – einwandfreier Zustand und sehr schöne Qualität!
Then I found this wool jacket, flawless and good quality!
Für alles zusammen habe ich 13€ gezahlt…. Zu Hause ging es an die Arbeit!
I paid 13€ for all these items.. Then I had my work cut out for me!
Aus dem filzigen Pullover habe ich Blüten und Blätter geschnitten und diese mit Stickgarn von Hand auf die Jacke appliziert. Das aufgenähte Garn bildet Ranken, und in die Blütenmitte kamen einige Filznuggets aus meinem Fundus. Natürlich achtete ich darauf, die jeweils ersten und letzten Pailletten der Reihen zu sichern. Der Schmetterling ist eine fertige Applikation und passt farblich perfekt.
Cutting the felty sweater, I created leaves and petals which I stitched by hand onto the jacket using embroidery floss. Swirls of the thick yarn imitate vines and for the centre of the flowers I used some felted nuggets from my stash. Of course, I made sure to secure the first and last sequins of each row. The butterfly is a purchased appliqué and perfectly matches the colours.
Der Rollkragen des Pullis wurde doppelt gelegt zum Stirnband und auch mit einer (Garn-)Blüte und Blättern versehen.
The broad turtleneck has been folded in half to create a headband – here the flower is made from the yarn.
Die unteren Teile der Ärmel habe ich zu Stulpen/Pulswärmern vernäht – sie haben seitlich auch Daumenlöcher, doch die sieht man auf dem Foto nicht.
The lower parts of the sleeves now serve as wristlets – they also have holes for the thumbs, which you just can’t see on the photo.
Die Mütze entstand dann aus den oberen Ärmelteilen, an die ich noch ein Stück des Taillenbündchens genäht habe. Das hat sich so richtig gelohnt, was meint Ihr?
From the upper parts of the sleeves I then cut this beanie, adding a piece of the sweater’s lower rim, a tassel made from the left-over yarn and some felt nuggets (or beans?😉). This was quite worth the while, don’t you think?
