Erinnerungen an die Bretagne – Memories of Brittany

Die besonders „hübschen“ Ecken, die ich in der Bretagne besucht hatte, habe ich ja größtenteils schon gezeichnet… Hier zwei Bilder, die auch typisch sind für die Bretagne, aber etwas „wilder“ – einschließlich wolkenverhangenem Himmel.

Already having sketched and posted most of the more picturesque parts of Brittany I had visited, the pictures today show a wilder side of the region, complete with cloudy skies – also typical!

Fort de la Conchée

Beim Fort de la Conchée handelt es sich um eine der Befestigungsanlagen, die Vauban im Auftrag Ludwig des XIV. errichten liess. Sie liegt auf einem Felsen in der Bucht vor St.Malo. Dieses Bild habe ich nicht im „line and wash“-Stil gemalt, sondern als typisches Aquarell.

The Fort de la Conchée is one of the fortifications Vauban had had built for Louis XIV. It’s situated on a rock in the bay of St.Malo. For this picture I didn’t use lines, it’s painted in the classical watercolour style.

Blick über Lautrec – View Over Lautrec

Nach einem meiner Fotos, das ich vor Jahren in Südfrankreich gemacht hatte. Lautrec liegt im Departement Tarn und gehört zu den „Schönsten Dörfern Frankreichs“. Bekannt ist sein Name vor allem durch den Maler Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, der zwar im selben Departement aufwuchs, aber nicht in dem Ort.

A photo of a trip to the south of France years ago has been used as reference for this watercolour. Lautrec is situated in the Departement Tarn and is one of the „most beautiful villages of France“. The name rings familiar because it’s part of the name of famous artist Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec. He was raised in the same Departement but has never lived in the village.

Die Konstruktion im Vordergrund ist eine Installation mit historischen Mühlsteinen.

The odd construction in the foreground is an installation with vintage millstones.

Bei Tharros, Sardinien – At Tharros Archeological Site, Sardinia

Dieser Turm wacht über die antike Stätte von Tharros, auf der Halbinsel Sinis auf Sardinien. Man kann ihn auch besteigen, der Ausblick lohnt sich! Ich war ja im Dezember dort, war einzige Besucherin am Nachmittag. Es gab tolle Lichtstimmungen!

This tower watches over the ancient site of Tharros on the Sinis peninsula, Sardinia. You can climb it – the sight is worth while! When I visited, it was December, me being the only visitor this afternoon… Also, there were great different light moods!

Am Dorfteich – At the Village Pond

Irgendwo im Vilstal hatte ich mal ein ähnliches Foto aufgenommen, das als Basis für diese Zeichnung diente. Mal sehen, wenn es dies Wochenende warm und trocken bleibt, werde ich auch wieder draussen ein Motiv suchen gehen!

Somewhere in the valley of the river Vils I once had taken a photo like this. So it has been the basis for this sketch. If the weather stays nice this weekend, I’ll also again go sketching outside!

Bergsommer – Summer in the Mountains

Für meine skibegeisterte Tochter grenzt es wahrscheinlich an Blasphemie, mitten in der Skisaison vom Bergsommer zu träumen… Doch mich beschäftigt das sehr, da ich liebend gern in den Bergen bin zum Wandern und fotografieren – und jetzt auch zum Malen… Mein Traum wäre es, nach meiner anstehenden Knieoperation und Reha irgendwann auch wieder in den Bergen wenigstens leichte Wanderungen machen zu können. Bis dahin bleibt mir nur, nach Fotos zu zeichnen!

Well, my ski- crazy daughter would call it blasphemy to dream of summer in the mountains in midst of skiing season… Since I’m not able to ski anymore but love the mountains for hiking, taking photos and sketching, my great hope is to at least be able to do easy hiking tours in the mountains again after my scheduled knee operation and reconvalescence. Up to then, all I can do is sketching from photos of my past hiking tours!

Ein tolles Panorama und viele Blumen findet man bei einer Wanderung im Fellhorn/Kanzelwandgebiet, im Kleinwalsertal. Ich begann damals von Oberstdorf aus und machte die Gratwanderung; solche Blicke sind dort überall zu finden. Wenn man im Frühsommer dort unterwegs ist, blühen sogar überall die „Alpenrosen“ – fantastisch!

A great panoramic view and many flowers: that’s hiking in the Fellhorn/Kanzelwand area in the Kleinwalsertal. I started in Oberstdorf and did the ridgewalk; on the way you find many scenes like this one. In early summer there is even more colour: alpine roses in bloom, a fantastic sight!

Weg zum See – Pathway to the Lake

Dieser Weg am Rande meines Stadtviertels führt zum See, Wald und Naherholungsgebiet. Besonders schön ist er morgens, wenn die Sonne über das Feld links scheint. Derzeit ist es zwar morgens ziemlich kalt, aber ich habe mich warm angezogen, daneben an der Strasse geparkt und mir zunächst eine ganz schnelle Skizze gemacht, dann ins Auto gesetzt und weitergezeichnet – zwischendurch immer wieder kurz ausgestiegen, um nach Licht, Farben und Formen zu sehen, dann wieder eingestiegen und fertig gemalt. Gefroren haben zum Schluss nur die Finger..

This pathway leads from my part of town towards the lake, the woods and the local recreational area. In the mornings the sun coming from over the field on the left creates nice light. Well, this time of year the mornings are cold, but I put on warm clothing and parked my car on the street nearby. First I did a quick sketch standing on the way, then I got into the car to continue – every now and then getting out again to look for the colours and structures. That way the fingers only got too cold when I had already finished…

Landschaftsbilder zum Üben – Some Landscapes for Practice

Nachdem es inzwischen auch hier in Augsburg winterlich kalt geworden ist, versuche ich, durch Zeichnen nach Fotos in Übung zu bleiben. Um keinen Ärger mit Urheberrechten zu bekommen, nehme ich als Vorlage ausschließlich meine eigenen Bilder bzw. solche von Freunden und Verwandten. Dabei fällt mir immer wieder auf, dass ich an meinen eigenen Fotos kaum etwas ändern muss, wenn ich sie zeichne – mein „Auge“ beim Fotografieren ist seit Jahren scheinbar das einer Malerin….

The winter finally having reached Augsburg, I’m trying to keep my sketching skills by using photos as reference for practice. Because of copyright I only use my own photos or those of friends and family. Also, with my own photos I don’t need to change a lot when sketching – seems, my „eye“ as a photographer has always also been one of a painter…
