An der Lechleite – A Walk on the Outskirts

Heute habe ich nochmal das Wetter genützt, um längere Zeit draußen zu spazieren und zu malen. Mit der drohenden allgemeinen Ausgangssperre wegen des Coronavirus genoss ich die frische Luft, die Sonne, den Duft nach Gras und Frühling, das Vogelkonzert und das Plätschern des Baches noch einmal ganz tief und bewusst! Die Lechleite ist außerhalb von Augsburg, aber nicht weit weg von meiner Wohnung, unterhalb von Friedberg. Am Fuss eines Südhanges lässt sich hier schön spazieren. Zwei Motive malte ich gleich vor Ort; etliche andere hielt ich mit der Kamera meines Handys fest, um sie später daheim zu zeichnen. Auf dem Weg zur Lechleite passiert man die „Kussmühle“, die heute ein Lokal ist. Davor steht ein Zierbaum, der wunderbar rosa blüht:

Today I used the sunny weather for a walk and a bit of sketching. With a general curfew due to the Corona virus looming, I enjoyed the freh air, the sun, the scent of grass and spring, the birdsong and the gurgling of the water in the creek very consciously. Outside of Augsburg, near Friedberg, a small road and walkway at the foot of a south-facing slope called „Lechleite“ offers nice views and a lot of sun. There, I did two pictures on site and took several more with my mobile for sketching later. The first shows a former mill which now hosts a restaurant. This time of year, a beautiful large tree with pink flowers is greeting the guests – who won’t come because of the crisis…

Und dann fand ich diese einzelne Osterglocke inmitten von Leberblümchen und Buschwindröschen am Hang im Wald, die man nur sehen konnte, wenn man zwischen Zaunlatten und Zweigen hindurchspähte. Und so wunderten sich andere Spaziergänger, was ich denn da malte mit Blick zum Gebüsch!

Then I found this single daffodil amidst liverworts and windflowers on the slope in the woods. You only could see it peering through a picket fence and brush – no wonder passers-by wondered what I was sketching, looking towards the woods!

Ab morgen gilt die Ausgangssperre. Hoffentlich dauert das Ganze nicht allzu lang!!!

Tomorrow, the curfew in Bavaria takes effect. Hopefully, all this madness won’t take for ever!!!

Ein weiteres Bild aus der Périgord-Serie. Ich hatte das Motiv damals für eine Postkarte gezeichnet und nun aber als etwas größeres Aquarell gemalt. Eine Freundin bat mich, stets die Größe meiner Arbeiten mit anzugeben, da man sich das am Bildschirm schlecht vorstellen kann: ich werde versuchen, daran zu denken! Dies ist nun 30×24cm, also etwas größer als DINA4.

Another picture from my Périgord series. At the time I had already used this motive for a sketched postcard, now I’ve done it as a larger watercolour. A friend just asked me to also post the sizes of my works because they’re hard to know from the screen: well, I’ll try to remember that! This one is 30x24cm (11,8×9,4inches).

Heidelandschaft – Landscape in the Heath

Für ein Landschaftsbild in klassischer Aquarelltechnik finde ich die Heide immer interessant, da sie – während der Blütezeit – besonders farbenfroh ist. Somit wird dies Bild sicher nicht das letzte aus der Gegend sein!

The heath is always interesting for painters, especially for classic watercolours. When it’s in bloom, it offers so many and nice colours! So, I’ll certainly do more pictures of the region in the future..

An der Ammer – Landscape at the River Ammer

Als ich neulich an der Ammer spazieren ging, waren die Bäume ja noch kahl. Auf diesem Bild habe ich ihnen aber schon ein grünes Blätterkleid gegönnt🙂

When walking on the shore of river Ammer two weeks ago, the trees still were bare. On this picture, though, I’ve provided them with foliage.🙂

Tatsächlich fand ich den Himmel so interessant, weil die Wolken (nicht ganz zusammen mit dem Fluss) einem fernen Fluchtpunkt zustrebten. Nach Süden. Richtung Berge, vielleicht sogar Richtung Mittelmeer…. Meine Reiselust war kaum zu bremsen, doch das muss warten, bis mein Knie operiert ist und ich nach der Reha wieder besser auf den Beinen bin! Bis dahin wird geträumt und gemalt…

Actually, I did this picture because the sky on the photo was intriguing: not quite parallel to the river, the clouds aimed for a far vanishing point. Towards the south. Towards the Alps, and perhaps, even towards the Mediterranian… My wanderlust was peaked, but it has to wait until after my knee will have been operated on and then, after reconvalescence I’ll be able to walk normally again! Until then, dreams and sketching will have to keep my spirits up…

Montignac

Ein hübscher Ort, mit viel Tourismus in der Hochsaison, da er nah an allen Hauptattraktionen der Gegend liegt, insbesondere an der weltberühmten Höhle von Lascaux und anderen archäologischen Stätten. Im Juni hielt sich der Trubel noch sehr in Grenzen. Das Bild zeigt den Blick vom Ufer der Vézère auf die Altstadt. Vielerorts in Frankreich zu sehen: der angesähte Blumenschmuck in den Landesfarben blau-weiß-rot. Hier fand ich es besonders interessant, da sich die Farben in den Dächern – hier rote Ziegel, da blaugrauer Schiefer – wiederholen.

A pretty small town, with a lot of tourists during high-season because it’s situated near most of the main attractions like the world-famous Lascaux Cave and other archaeological sites. In June, it still was quiet enough. The picture shows the view over the Vézère river towards the old part of the town. In France, you often see flower combinations in the national colours. Here, I found them especially intriguing because they corresponded with the colours of the roofs: red tiles and blue-gray slate.

Von der Fähre aus hatte ich das Foto gemacht, das als Vorlage diente. Allerdings bin ich nicht 100%ig sicher, ob das noch die Hauptinsel war oder eine der vielen kleinen Inseln in der Bucht…

The reference photo had been taken from the ferry – to tell the truth, I’m not a 100% sure if these houses are situated on the main island or on one of the many small ones in the bay…

Auf alle Fälle eine traumhafte Lage! Die Ostseite von Vancouver Island liegt nämlich sehr schön geschützt, und die Bewohner dieser Häuser können gelegentlich sogar mit dem Fernglas Orcas und andere Wale beobachten…

In any case a great place to live: the eastern coast of Vancouver Island enjoys a mild climate because it’s not exposed to the weathers like the western side. Also, the shore dwellers sometimes can watch orcas and other whales with their binos…

Dieses Bergdorf ist schon von weitem sehr malerisch und erinnert an die Toskana. Den besten Blick hat man von diesem Parkplatz aus, der auch Töpfe mit leuchtenden Blumen für den Vordergrund bietet!

This picturesque village is situated on a hill, making for a picture similar to famous ones from Tuscany. The best view is from this rest area which also provides large colourful flowerpots for the foreground.

Mal wieder nach einem Foto entstand dies Bild. Es zeigt den Blick vom Park in Nuoro, Sardinien. Wie man sieht, liegt die Stadt in den Bergen des sardischen Inlands. Die Suche nach Fotos von ehemaligen Reisen und dann das Malen lassen die Erinnerungen wieder lebendig werden!

Ein sonniger Ausflug – A Daytrip in the Sun

Bei den heutigen Wetteraussichten (sonnig, bis zu 14°C) beschloss ich heute früh spontan, einen Tagesausflug zu machen. Nachdem ich in letzter Zeit zwei Bilder gezeichnet hatte, die am Ammersee fotografiert worden waren, zog es mich genau dort hin! Zunächst machte ich jedoch Halt in Seefeld, wo ich das Schloss zeichnete:

The weather being warm and sunny, I decided this morning to go on a daytrip. Having done two sketches from photos taken at lake Ammersee this week, this destination came immediately to my mind. That said, I first went to Seefeld to sketch the castle:

Das Schloss ist immer noch im Privatbesitz des Grafen Toerring. Vor dem Schloss (aus dieser Perspektive wäre das rechts davon) sind ehemalige Wirtschaftsgebäude, die heutzutage kleine Boutiquen, Kunsthandwerk und ein Kino beherbergen. Das Foto unten zeigt den Torbogen:

The castle is still private property of Count Toerring. In front of the castle (from the perspective of my sketch that would be on the right hand side) there are former farm buildings which now house little boutiques, artwork and a cinema. On the photo below you see the entrance building:

Dann fuhr ich weiter nach Diessen, hielt unterwegs noch kurz an der Ammer – dem Flüsschen, welches dem Ammersee seinen Namen gab. Dort genoss ich einen kleinen Spaziergang und das Alpenpanorama:

Trüber Tag am Ammersee – Rainy Day on Lake Ammersee

Die bunten Planen, mit welchen die Segelboote abgedeckt sind, bilden willkommene Farbkleckse im Grau. Interessant: intuitiv will man das Wasser dunkel malen an einem solchen Tag, doch wenn man hinsieht, ist die spiegelnde Oberfläche erstaunlich hell! Verwitterte Pfosten und Baumstämme sind stets ein lohnendes Motiv und machen im Aquarell immer Spaß. Man kann ihnen mehr oder weniger Farbe und Struktur verleihen, außerdem dienen sie als Vordergrund, Perspektivgeber und führen das Auge ins Bild.

The tarpaulins protecting the boats are welcome dots of colour on a gray, rainy day. Interesting: intuitively I tend to paint the water in dark colours on such a day, but looking more closely it becomes clear that the reflecting surface actually is surprisingly light! Weathered posts and poles as well as trunks always are fun to paint. You can add colour and structure to your liking, moreover they serve as foreground, they define the perspective and lead the eye into the picture.
