Dieses Motiv könnte irgendwo in Südfrankreich, Spanien, Italien o.ä. sein – tatsächlich war es in einem Dorf in Kroatien. Egal, ob mit Kamera oder Pinsel, solche Ecken sind immer reizvoll! Erste Assoziation: Urlaub!!!

This scene could be situated almost anywhere in the Mediterranian – actually, it was in a Croatian village. Wether you prefer the camera or the brush: these corners are always worth a picture! First association: vacation!!

Übrigens habe ich nun gesehen, wie sich die andere „Ecke“, auf meinem Bild von Hamburg (Beitrag vom 30.4.19) verändert hat: auf dem Gebäude rechts im Bild wurde die Elbphilharmonie aufgesetzt! Dachte mir doch, dass das zugrunde liegende Foto nicht ganz aktuell war… 🙂

By the way: in my post from 4/30 this year, I had shown a scene in Hamburg, commenting, that I didn’t know how the place looks today because the reference photo was 20 years old. Well, now I know: on top of the building at the right edge the new concert hall „Elbphilharmonie“ has been built! So, my suspicion had been right about the photo being outdated… 🙂

Da ich heute zwischen Früh- und Abenddienst Bereitschaft hatte, konnte ich trotz schönen Wetters nicht hinaus. Daher nahm ich mal wieder ein Foto von meinem Kanada-Urlaub als Vorlage zum Malen. Die ehemalige Fischkonservenfabrik in einem Vorort von Vancouver ist heute Museum. Drum herum gibt es einen sehr schönen „Boardwalk“ mit vielen Fischlokalen. Touristenmagnet, ja – aber man erfährt auch viel über die Entwicklung der Fischerei in British Columbia.

Being on stand-by between two shifts I had to stay home despite the nice weather. So this time it was once again a photo that inspired me for this picture. The former cannery in a suburb of Vancouver once was the largest fish processing enterprise on the west coast of Canada; now it’s a museum. The surrounding boardwalks invite you for a stroll and a meal in one of the many fish restaurants. Yes, it’s a tourist magnet, but very nice and you learn a lot about the developement of the fishing trade in British Columbia.

In der Bretagne hatte ich auch ein Freilicht-Bauernmuseum besucht, bei dem Ort Poul Fetan. Ich fand es sehr hübsch – zum Malen und Fotografieren – und interessant, da informativ. In einigen Gebäuden sind Ausstellungen von Werkzeugen und anderen Dingen aus alter Zeit, dazu gibt es auch Videos. Natürlich werden auch Führungen angeboten und in der Hochsaison gibt es täglich Vorführungen der Geräte.

In Brittany I had visited an open air museum’s farm, near the village Poul Fetan. It’s very picturesque, but also very interesting. In some of the buildings there are exhibitions of the vintage and antique tools and other things as well as photos and videos. You can join a guided tour or watch demonstrations of the old tools and devices.

Was das Bild (32x24cm) selbst betrifft, so bin ich ziemlich zufrieden mit dem Ergebnis. Einige Tipps aus den Anleitungsvideos von Shari Blaukopf habe ich hier anwenden und üben können. Ich glaube, dieses werde ich rahmen!

As for the picture itsself, it’s a larger one (32x24cm), and I must say, I’m quite satisfied with the result. Heeding the advice from the DVDs by Shari Blaukopf really seems to improve my skills. Actually, I think I’ll put this one into a frame!
