Diese beiden hübschen Dörfer habe ich am selben Tag besucht. St.Léon gehört zu den „Schönsten Dörfern“, doch in Plazac fand ich genauso viele hübsche Ecken, sprich, Foto- und Malmotive. Zunächst St.Léon:

When visiting St.Léon-sur-Vézère, Plazac was on my way, so I stopped there, too. St.Léon prides itsself to be listed amongst the „Most beautiful villages of France“, but in Plazac I found as many picturesque corners for nice photos or sketches. First, St.Léon:

Dieser beschriftete Kräutergarten ist auf öffentlichem Grund; dort war früher der Garten des Bischofssitzes. Man beachte die kleine Solaranlage – wahrscheinlich wird damit die Beleuchtung gespeist.

This herb garden with explanations is situated on public ground, where centuries ago the bishop had his garden. The small solar collector produces energy for the light in the evening, I suppose.

Links neben der Kirche der ehemalige Bischofssitz – beides Burg-artig befestigt, wie es damals üblich – da nötig – war. Im Périgord haben fast alle Orte vor der Kirche bzw. auf dem Marktplatz diese offenen Hallen (Säulen mit Dach links); sie dienen noch heute als Sonnen- und Regenschutz für die Marktleute. Unten: den Bischofssitz hatte ich ja auch in meinem Aquarell – Reisetagebuch festgehalten:

The building left of the church is the former bishop’s „palace“; as the church, it was fortified as was the custom (and necessary) at the time. In the Périgord region almost every town and village has an open hall like you see on the lower left half of the picture: it still serves to protect the market from sun and rain. Und natürlich ein Taubenturm! Übrigens: wer Gefallen am Périgord gefunden hat und vielleicht auch noch gern Krimis liest, dem seien die Bücher von Martin Walker empfohlen, denn dieser gebürtige Schotte wohnt im Périgord und schreibt über „Bruno, Chef de Police“ – eine Serie mit viel Lokalkolorit! Vielleicht erkennt Ihr ja den einen oder anderen Ort wieder, den ich hier im Blog vorgestellt habe!? Ich jedenfalls kann mir alles jetzt viel besser vorstellen…
