Vor 8 Jahren hatte meine Tochter in Kanada den Mann ihres Lebens gefunden. Die Hochzeit hatte damals recht kurzfristig stattgefunden, damit die Übersiedlung nach Deutschland problemlos klappte. Deshalb hatten viele Verwandte und Freunde nicht teilnehmen können, selbst ich war nur über Skype dabei gewesen. Das junge Paar hatte immer eine große Feier in der Kirche nachholen wollen, doch aus diversen Gründen klappt das nun erst diesen August. Zwar ist es noch fraglich, ob die kanadische Seite teilnehmen kann (wegen Corona), doch nochmal wollen sie es nicht verschieben. Da sie in Tracht heiraten wollen, bat mich meine Tochter, ihr zu ihrem blau-weißen Dirndl für die Hochzeit eine festliche Schürze zu nähen. Nach langem Suchen fand ich einen Damaststoff, der ihren Vorstellungen entsprach.

8 years ago my daughter met the love of her life in Canada. The wedding took place on a short term, to facilitate their move to Germany (less fuss with immigration). So many relatives and friends weren’t able to attend – even I did so only by skype. The two of them always wanted a big wedding in church later, which now will take place in August. Alas, due to corona restrictions the Canadians probably won’t be able to attend this time, but the couple is determined not to wait any longer. Since they will wear traditional Bavarian costumes (my daughter is a proud Bavarian and her husband likes it, too), my daughter asked me to sew a white apron for her „Dirndl“ – the traditional Bavarian dress. It took a while to find the damask material she fancied.

Das Nähen selbst war keine große Sache, aber ich wollte noch etwas Besonderes daraus machen. So gab es zum NEUEN Stoff noch eine ALTE Spitze, in die ich am oberen Rand ein Satinbändchen eingezogen habe. Außerdem habe ich in jede Blütenmitte eine Perle genäht, wissend, dass meine Tochter ihre Perlenohrstecker tragen wird. Da das Kleid selbst ja blau ist, braucht sie nun nur noch etwas Geliehenes….

The sewing was easy, but I wanted to add something special, too. So I combined the NEW material with an OLD (vintage) lace border, adding interest by threading a satin ribbon through at the upper edge as well as sewing pearls in the middle of each flower motive (knowing my daughter will wear her pearl studs). Since her dress is blue and white, she now only needs something borrowed…
