Nachmittags war ich mit dem Rad unterwegs, auch auf Suche nach einem Motiv zum Malen. An der Reichenbachstrasse wurde ich fündig: die Kombination verschiedener Bäume, Wasser, Schornstein und das leuchtende Ziegelgebäude reizten mich. So stand ich auf der Brücke über den Herrenbach, nach welchem das Viertel benannt ist, und hielt das Motiv fest.

This afternoon I rode my bike in search of a nice scene for sketching. In a part of town next to my neighbourhood I found it: the combination of different trees, water, the chimney and the small brick building intrigued me. So I stood leaning on the handrail of a bridge over the „Herrenbach“-canal which has named the whole district, trying to catch the scene.

Augsburg ist ja von vielen Bächen und Kanälen durchzogen; dieser hier „bediente“ das Viertel der Textilindustrie – ganz in der Nähe dieses Ortes befinden sich denkmalgeschützte alte Industriebauten (Fabrikschloss, Glaspalast, Kammgarnspinnerei) – daher auch der alte Schornstein.

Augsburg is an old, big city which not only had prospered during the Renaissance age but also when industrialisation conquered the textile manufactures. Also, it has many creeks and canals criss-crossing the city; this one once „served“ the quarter where the textile industry was mostly seated. Not far from this scene there are several protected monuments from this age – hence the old chimney.

Das kleine Ziegelgebäude beherbergt die Steuerungsanlage für das kleine Wehr – in Augsburg ist die Wasserströmung der einzelnen Bäche und Kanäle recht genau gesteuert.

Das alte Handwerk des Blaudrucks wird noch hier und da praktiziert; meist kann man die Werkstatt auch besuchen. Ich hatte die Gelegenheit vor ein paar Jahren in Jever, Ostfriesland (jaja, „wie das Land, so das Jever “ 🙂 ) Dies war ein ideales Motiv, um mal ein Bild mit reduzierter Farbpalette zu malen!

The old art of indigo print is still exercised in some places; most of them can be visited. An opportunity to do just that presented itsself to me in Jever, in the North of Germany, some years ago. Now I’ve chosen this photo as reference to practice painting with a limited colour palette.

In der Nähe von Neuburg hatte ich einen alten Bauernhof mehrfach fotografiert; eines der Bilder jetzt gemalt. Die Katze lag tatsächlich davor – perfekte Idylle. Die „Landluft“ muss man sich dazu denken! 🙂

Near Neuburg I found an old farmhouse which I took photos of several times. Now one of the pictures was reference for this sketch – the cat lying there making for an idyllic scene. Only the „fresh country air“ is left to your imagination! 🙂

Seit ich wieder gesund bin, zieht es mich bei dem schönen Wetter hinaus zum Zeichnen und Malen. Und da es durch die Sommerzeit länger hell ist, klappt das auch noch nach der Arbeit! Außerdem hatte ich auch am Wochenende schon kleine Ausflüge gemacht.

Since I’m well again, the nice weather lures me outside for sketching and painting. Thanks to the time switch there’s more daylight in the afternoon, so even after work there’s still time to do that. Also, during the weekend I had made short trips.

Die Harburg, zwischen Donauwörth und Nördlingen – Kann auch besichtigt werden, sehr interessant! Im Schlosshof habe ich nach einem kleinen Naturspaziergang dann auch noch fotografiert, sehr schöne Gebäude! Diesmal gibt es den Beweis, daß das Bild vor Ort entstanden ist:

Und gestern war ich hier in der Nähe mit dem Fahrrad unterwegs und habe diese Szene festgehalten.

Yesterday, I rode my bike a short tour near Augsburg and captured this scene.

Aber auch daheim, von Fotos, sind noch zwei Bilder entstanden; und zwar, nachdem ich zwei DVDs erhalten habe, auf die ich mich schon lange freute. Im Internet war ich mehrfach auf Zeichnungen und Aquarelle gestoßen, die mir besonders gefielen, und siehe da, sie waren alle von derselben Künstlerin, nämlich Shari Blaukopf aus Montreal. Dann entdeckte ich, dass sie Kurse gibt – nicht hier bei uns, aber u.a. auch online und eben auf DVDs! Auch dadurch habe ich neuen Elan bekommen und werde versuchen, möglichst viel von ihr zu lernen.

At home, too, I’ve done two pictures – after having got more inspiration from watching two DVDs by Shari Blaukopf (of Montreal), my favourite watercolourist and Urban Sketcher. The DVDs had just arrived on Monday, and I hope to learn a lot from Shari this way!

Amberg: an der Stadtmauer – es gibt dort auch noch schönere Abschnitte, die ich sicher auch noch malen werde, und zwar vor Ort, wenn ich mal wieder dort bin. Dies hier hatte ich nur schnell per Handy geknipst, um eine Malvorlage zu haben.
