Nun bin ich in der Bretagne, genauer, in Hennebont, einem kleinen Städtchen in der Nähe von Lorient. Hier werde ich eine Woche bleiben, danach dann für eine weitere Woche in den Norden der Bretagne ziehen. Den Ort habe ich gewählt, weil ich hier eine günstige Ferienwohnung bekam und weil von hier der ganze Süden gut zu erreichen ist. Heute habe ich erst einmal gründlich ausgeschlafen, denn die letzten 2 Tage waren doch sehr anstrengend gewesen mit viel Autofahren und 4 Schlossbesichtigungen! Das Wetter war heute trübe, und so habe ich nur nachmittags einen langen Erkundungsspaziergang im Ort unternommen:

Now I’m in Brittany, in a small town called Hennebont, near Lorient. I’ll stay here for one week, then move to the north of Brittany for another week. From here, I can easily reach all interesting sites in the south , moreover I was lucky to get a nice and comfortable appartement at low cost. Today I’ve slept in – the last days have been interesting, but also a bit exhausting with all the driving and 4 castle visits! Since the weather was a bit dull today, I just took a long walk to get to know the town:

Auf dem Weg in die Innenstadt „muss“ ich durch diesen schönen Park, mit Arboretum, wo die heimischen Eichen und Kastanien neben Bambus, Palmen und Zedern stehen…

On my way to town I have to cross this nice park with arboretum, where the native oaks and chestnuts share the space with bamboo, palms and cedars,,,

Es gibt natürlich eine Kathedrale – nicht groß, aber hoch:

Und Wehranlagen, mit breitem Tor, Türmen und begehbarer Mauer…

Einen Segelhafen am Fluss (der Blavet), welcher weiter südlich ins Meer mündet…

Wie man sieht, gibt es auch ein Eisenbahn-Viadukt. Hier auch zu erkennen: die Gezeiten machen sich bis hier bemerkbar (es ist Ebbe), und es roch auch schon sehr nach Meer! Die Piraten hier machen sich aber sonntags einen faulen Tag.. 🙂

As you see, there’s also a train-viaduct. Looking closely, you’ll also see that the tides impact the river up to here (now it’s low tide), and it already smelled a lot like the seashore! The lokal pirates don’t seem very busy, though… 🙂

Achja, und dann war da noch ein….Flohmarkt!!! Völlig unerwartet stieß ich darauf  – und habe natürlich wieder Geld ausgegeben –  1€ nämlich. Für was? Nicht lachen beim nächsten Bild! Sowas wollte ich schon als Kind haben, doch die schönen waren immer zu teuer, aber jetzt 🙂

Oh, and then there was a … flea market!!! Unexpectedly I stumbled into it, and, of course, spent some money… 1€ to tell the truth! And for what? Don’t laugh at the next picture – as a kid I always wanted such a thing, but the nice ones were too expensive, So NOW 🙂

Danach begann es, richtig zu regnen, und für den Heimweg brauchte ich dann auch die Regenjacke, die ich im Rucksack dabei hatte. Auch der Wind hatte sehr aufgefrischt, und als ich heimkam hatte ich viel mehr Appetit auf eine kräftige Suppe als auf den geplanten Salat. Nun ist ja heute Sonntag, und ich hatte noch nicht so viele Vorräte im Appartement, daher war improvisieren angesagt!

Then it started to rain, so for the way home I needed the rain jacket I had taken in my backpack. Also, the wind picked up in cold gusts, so coming home I much more fancied a hot soup than the planned salad. Because it was Sunday, and I still hadn’t got a lot of groceries in the appartment, I had to improvise:

Frische Karotten, Vollkornbaguette, Tomaten und Ziegenfrischkäse, dazu etwas Zwiebel und eine kleine Knoblauchzehe, die ich von der Vermieterin hier noch vorfand, waren die Hauptzutaten. Zwiebeln, Knoblauch und die kleingewürfelten Karotten briet ich in einem Gemisch aus Olivenöl und Butter an, fügte dann das kleingerupfte Brot und die Tomaten sowie Wasser und gekörnte Brühe zu und ließ alles köcheln, bis das Brot sämig war und die Karotten noch ein wenig Biss hatten. Das ganze mit etwas Zitronensaft abgeschmeckt, sowie Pfeffer. Zum Schluss ein Esslöffel Ziegenfrischkäse untergerührt – es schmeckte richtig lecker – und wärmte schön 🙂

Some carrots, whole grain baguette, tomatoes and fresh goat cheese as well as a bit of chopped onion and a small piece of garlic my landlady had left, had to do! So after stir-frying the onions, the garlic and the chopped carrots in olive oil and a bit of butter, I added the breadcrumps, the chopped tomatoes as well as water and concentrated broth and left it to cook until the bread was smooth and the carrots still not too soft. Then I added a bit of lemon juice , pepper and a tablespoon of the goat cheese. It tasted very good – and warmed me up 🙂
