Tja, eine bessere Überschrift fiel mir nicht ein, da die zwei Geschenke sehr verschieden sind. Sie waren für Freundinnen, die in letzter Zeit Geburtstag hatten, aber für Weihnachten wären sie natürlich auch geeignet!
Well, not the best heading ever, but I just didn’t come up with a better one, the two gifts being quite different. I’d made them for the birthdays of two friends, but of course they would do for Christmas, too!
Hier habe ich einen alten französischen Salatkorb (aus dem Périgord mitgebracht) in ein kleines Terrarium verwandelt: Kieselsteine, Strandglas, ein Schneckenhaus und drei verschiedene Tillandsien („Luftpflanzen“) habe ich darin angesiedelt. Die Tillandsien brauchen ja keine Erde, sondern müssen nur ab und zu angesprüht werden. Dies war schnell gemacht und ist doch etwas Besonderes – vor allem für Leute, die den Vintage-Look mögen!
This vintage French salad basket which I had brought from my trip to the Périgord region, has been used to create a kind of terrarium: pebbles, beach glass and a shell as well as three different tillandsias have been arranged in the basket. The tillandsias, also called „air plants“, don’t need any soil; they live on the humidity in the air. So spraying them lightly from time to time is all the care they need. This unique gift is fast to make and will delight anyone who loves the vintage look.
Das Büchlein war natürlich aufwändiger: meine handgebundenen Bücher mit verschiedenen, alten Papieren habe ich ja schon mehrfach vorgestellt; das Besondere an diesem ist das Frontcover: ein kleines, altes, handgemaltes Bildchen vom Flohmarkt ist der Deckel. Es ist mit Öl- oder Acrylfarben gemalt, und zwar auf eine Malplatte, daher fest genug, um dem Buch als Cover zu dienen. Dafür hatte ich es aus dem Rahmen genommen und stattdessen eine textile Borte um die Kante geklebt. Für meine kunstbegeisterte Freundin war das natürlich sehr passend!
Well, this handmade book took more time, of course. Since I’ve already posted my handmade note books using a wide variety of vintage papers several times, I just want to show you the special cover of this one: a small, vintage painting, done on a wooden plate. With the original frame replaced by a textile border it’s a beautiful front cover for this book – and a perfect gift for my art-loving friend!
