Als ersten Post habe ich einen kleinen Überblick über meine kreativen Arbeiten erstellt:

As my first post I’d like to present a short overview of my creative exploits:

Momentan beschäftigt mich natürlich das Thema „Herbst“! Ein kleiner Quilt und ein Kissen – beides mit Fototransfer – holen die Jahreszeit in mein Wohnzimmer:

Right now, autumn and it’s colours are most inspiring! A small quilt and a pillowcase – both using photo transfer – make for a seasonal decoration:

„Früchte und Blüten im Herbst“ gaben die Farben vor – das einfache Streifenpatchwork lebt von besonderen Stoffen (Samt, Seide, etc.) und von applizierten Borten und Bändern. Für das Kissen habe ich mal alle meine Fotos von Pilzen verwendet. Was für eine Sorte der Lilafarbene ist, weiß ich nicht!

For „Fruits and Flowers of Fall“ I used precious fabrics, ribbons and yarns, following the colourscheme of the photos. For the pillowcase I used all my photos of mushrooms – but I don’t know how the purple one is called!

Ein paar Tipps zum Fototransfer auf Stoff: hier wurde sogenannte T-Shirt-Transferfolie verwendet, die mit Inkjetdruck funktioniert. Natürlich kann diese Folie auf jedem Stoff verwendet werden, der hauptsächlich aus Pflanzenfaser besteht. Wichtig: bei der Variante für HELLE Stoffe, die hier verwendet wurde, muss entweder das Foto vor dem Drucken gespiegelt werden ODER im Druckermenü „Transferfolie“ angeklickt werden – dann wird automatisch gedreht. Bei der Folie für DUNKLE Stoffe darf nicht gespiegelt werden, diese funktioniert nach anderem System (sie sitzt außerdem mehr AUF dem Stoff, ohne einzudringen und wirkt „künstlicher“, ist auch weniger haltbar). Um ein besonders haltbares Bild zu bekommen, empfiehlt es sich, nach dem Abziehen der Trägerfolie das Bild mit Backpapier zu bedecken und nochmal auf höchster Stufe und mit festem Druck zu fixieren. Eine 30°C-40°C – Wäsche vor der Weiterverarbeitung sorgt für ein weicheres Ergebnis. Viel Spass beim Experimentieren!

Some advice for using transfer foil: it can be used on any fabric made from plant fibres. There is a difference between the foil for LIGHTCOLOURED fabrics and the one for DARK fabrics: using lightcoloured fabrics the photo must be mirrored before printing (OR you choose „transfer foil“ in your printer menu), the foil for dark fabrics doesn’t need that! The last one sits ON the fabric, the texture is not quite satisfying and it’s not as longlasting as the foil for lightcoloured fabric. So for embellishing dark fabrics, I prefer printing on lightcoloured fabric and sewing it onto the dark background. To get a longlasting imprint, I use to follow the producer’s recommendation, but after removing the backing paper I cover the picture with baking parchment and iron it again using the hottest setting and strong pressure. Then I wash it at 40°C before using the picture for my projects – this removes part of the stiffness. So now just try and have fun!
