Eines vorweg: die versprochenen restlichen handgebundenen Bücher findet Ihr in den nächsten Posts – heute möchte ich unbedingt dies hier zeigen 🙂

Nach etlichen Blüten in Aquarell habe ich mich nun daran gemacht, auch mal wieder Landschaften zu üben. Da ich kein großes Zeichentalent habe, und vielleicht auch ein bißchen zu sehr vom Fotografen-Blick bestimmt bin, tue ich mich damit etwas schwer. Allerdings möchte ich es unbedingt lernen, weil mir gemalte Reisetagebücher sooo gefallen! Nach vielem Probieren und etlichen youtube-Videoanleitungen, glaube ich nun, einen für mich gangbaren Weg und Stil gefunden zu haben. In diesem Beitrag zeige ich Euch meine letzten Versuche, und ich glaube, man sieht schon ein bisschen Entwicklung…

Having painted – and posted – quite a lot of flower watercolours, I’ve been dabbling at landscapes again lately. Lacking real talent for drawing – and perhaps being influenced by photography too much – this doesn’t come easy to me. So why try at all? Well, I just LOVE painted pictures in travel journals! After several attempts and even more youtube video tutorials I now believe to have found a style and way to master it some day. What do you think – don’t the following examples already show some development?

Dieser Leuchtturm an der Côte de Granit Rose ist noch ziemlich ungeschickt; es fehlt das Licht, und Vegetation und Wasser sind undefiniert. Hier und auch noch in den nächsten Bildern habe ich erst versucht, das Motiv als reines Aquarell zu malen, nur um es dann doch hinterher mit schwarzem Liner zu definieren…

This lighthouse at the Pink Granite Coast still looks quite clumsy. There’s no light and the vegetation as well as the water aren’t defined well. With this as with the following pictures I had first tried to catch the motive with the watercolours; only to at last grab the liner for definition…

„Schöner Wohnen“ am Mekong in Vietnam.. Etwas mehr Licht, aber sonst nicht so toll. Ich habe mal wieder versucht, jede Kleinigkeit in dem komplexen Bild wiederzugeben, seufz… Ich muss mehr vereinfachen!

„Hoodoos“ – Sandsteinformationen in Alberta, Kanada. Die Bäume müssen besser werden, und der Vogel ist zu groß geraten…

Botanical Beach auf Vancouver Island – dieses gefällt mir schon besser, aber die Felsen muss ich auch noch üben!

Die Steinreihen von Carnac – das Motiv war perfekt zum Üben von Felsen – und ich finde, die hier sind schon viel besser. Die Bäume im Hintergrund muss man ja nicht beachten… 🙂

Das war mein erster Versuch, ERST die Linien mit Liner zu zeichnen und dann zu malen. Allerdings habe ich mir da auch ein sehr schwieriges Motiv ausgesucht: viele verschiedene Ebenen, alles in Blau- und Grüntönen – mag als grobe Skizze durchgehen, aber zufrieden bin ich nicht…

This was the first time I tried it vice versa: first applying the liner, then painting. Well, I’m not satisfied, but it’s a quite difficult picture with several levels, all in blue and green tones. As a quick sketch it might just be okay..

Also wählte ich diesmal eine ganz kleine Szene und versuchte, das Typische festzuhalten, ohne mich in Details zu verpinseln.. Auch hier erst Liner, dann Farbe. Und siehe da – es gefällt mir tatsächlich, und zwar genau für den Zweck, für den ich übe: Reisetagebücher, keine kunstvollen Aquarelle zum Rahmen! Wer sich wundert, weshalb die Bäume grau sind: im Dezember auf Sardinien sahen Olivenbäume in der Sonne immer hellgrau aus – also ganz typisch!

So this time I chose a small scene and tried to catch the essentials without adding infinite details and layers of colour… Also, first liner, then colour. And it worked! I really like it for the purpose I want: a travel journal, not for framed art! If you wonder why I chose grey for the trees: in winter the olive trees all looked light grey in the sun – so that’s an essential!

Ähnlich hier: es muss nicht alles perfekt passen, Hauptsache, der Eindruck kommt rüber. Ich lerne vereinfachen!

Same here: no need to get everything perfectly, just catching the right impression. Learning to simplify!

Nicht direkt eine Landschaft, aber ein ideales Motiv für ein Reisetagebuch – mal ganz leuchtende Farben! Ich denke, es ist sichtbar, dass ich es schon mit „leichter Hand“ gemalt habe – und das Licht ist da.

Not really a landscape, but a perfect subject for a travel journal – bright colours! I think it shows a „loose brush stroke“ – and the light is there, too!

Dann wieder mal ein etwas komplexeres Motiv: ein Weinberg (und Olivenbäume) im Winter – das Weinlaub leuchtet bunt in der Sonne. Bis auf den blöden Busch im Vordergrund ist es gar nicht schlecht…

Then I wanted to try something a more complex: a vineyard (with some olive trees). In winter in Sardinia the vine leaves still clinging to the stocks shine gold and red in the sun. Exept for the (damned!) bush in the foreground it’s not so bad…

Und wieder ein richtig passendes, einfaches Bild für so ein Sketchbuch: ein altes Gebäude (Kirche?) in Orosei, Sardinien. Also: ich werde weiter üben (vor allem Bäume und Büsche..), denn man lernt nie aus und es macht viel Spass!

This one again is a perfect small, not too complex picture for a journal: an old building (church?) in Orosei, Sardinia. So, I will definitely go on practicing (most of all trees and bushes!) because you can’t learn too much and it’s so much fun!
